It’s digital and the BIOS setting you’re talking about will tell it to use either digital out on the case jacks or analog out.
When a headphone is plugged into the front panel jack, the audio signal goes to the headphones; the return pins are disconnected, so no audio signal goes to the speakers.
The case has one wire from the front audio ports with two headers AZALIA or AC ’97 azalai reading the case manual it says that if i plug in the wrong header it will ruin my mobo. They both appear to have the same kind of connector right down to the ‘key’ – the space azapia there’s no pin and its filled upapparently the same colour codes at close inspection and so on. HD Audio is intended to replace AC’ Apr 7, at All times are GMT In the HDA design, when the plug is not inserted, the codec sends the audio directly to the speakers the audio does not go out to the front panel and then loop back to the speakers.
The correct one to use depends on your case.
Hi Here is one review related to HDA boards http: The Azalia spec includes a sensing network that can detect if a plug is inserted in any of up to eight different sockets, and the system would bring up an annoying message asking what you had plugged into a port which was confusing, as it wasn’t necessarily detecting the correct port, as the case was wired for AC Dismiss Notice We are currently updating the search index, and it will be temporarily unavailable for a couple of hours while this is in process.
My gigabyte mb g-ds3 is high definition on board and yes it’s a realtek chip.
The header on mine is just labelled audio. Post 8 of BTW thanks for quick respons I hope someone can help me with something i’ve been wondering about. Microsoft Windows XP Professional.
Most users aren’t going to find that acceptable. AC97 is a different chip??
I would suggest trying the HD audio connector first, if the rear audio output on your motherboard doesn’t work try using the AC97 connector instead. I haven;t tried the digital out as I lack a case with audio jacks on it.
Interfaces are listed by their speed in the roughly ascending order, so the aac97 at the end of each section should be the fastest. I will be adding emphasis.

If you wanted to use an AC97 motherboard without front panel audio it was nessacery to put jumpers on the audio header to make the rear audio output work. Originally Posted by alexxx.
